About our church

Calvary Baptist Church is nestled near the heart of Deep East Texas, serving as a beacon of faith to the city of Wells and beyond. We strive to foster a welcoming community where individuals can come as they are to celebrate and grow in their faith. Our morning services are dedicated to worshiping and praising God. Each service is "family-friendly" with Christ-centered preaching and teaching.
     We strive to make our mission statement come alive by boldly preaching every aspect of the gospel of Jesus Christ, offering small group studies, creating paths for personal Christian growth, and staying active within the community.
We love to love people!
      The building is centrally located at 37 Warner Rd, Wells, Texas. However, the church is scattered throughout the city and surrounding communities throughout Cherokee County. We aim to bring people together and foster a sense of community among all residents.

About our beliefs

The Word of God:
~~~ we believe that all 66 books of the bible are the testimony of God's revelation to humanity and essential for guiding faith and practice. (2 Timothy 3:16)
~~~We believe that the through the bible that God gives us everything needed for life and godly living (2 Peter 1:3)
~~~We believe that the Word of God is profitable for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training for righteous living. So that the godly person may be equipped for every good deed. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
The Trinity (Father, Son, & Holy Spirit)
~~~We believe that God is one uncreated God with three separate beings. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. They are distinct in role and function. (Genesis 1:26, Matthew 28:19)
~~~ We believe that God has been moving all things according to His providence and has sent His son to save us. (Ephesians 1:4-5)
~~~We believe that Jesus Christ was born of the Virgin Mary, was crucified, buried, and rose again on the third day for the forgiveness of sin. (Matthew 1:23, Isaiah 7:14)
~~~We believe the Holy Spirit was sent to the world by the father and son to dwell within the believer, as to not to live for themselves but for the Father.
~~~We believe the Holy Spirit regenerates lost people so they might respond in faith to the saving work of Jesus Christ. (John 14:12, Ephesians 5:8, John 16:14, John 5:5-8)
Salvation
~~~We believe that man is "dead in their trespasses because of sin". By nature, man is children of rath (Ephesian 2:1,3) Unbelievers cannot please God. (Romans 8:8)
~~~ We believe the death of Christ was substitutionary in nature and it, provided path for redemption and reconciliation with God through faith. His death completely satisfied the wrath of God on behalf of sinners (2 Corinthians 5:21)

~~~We believe that Jesus loves the church and gave His life for her. (Ephesians 5:25)
~~~We believe a faith response is necessary to apply salvation to a person. (John 3:16) We believe that the Holy Spirit gives the gift of faith to a person so they may turn to Him. (Ephesians 2:8)

~~~We believe God will preserve the true believer until the end of time. They will never be separated from the love of God. (Romans 8:31-39)
The Church
~~~We believe the church is the body of Christ, and is made up of all believers of Christ. The church is both universal and local.  The church's primary mission is to, "proclaim the excellence of Him" who called us out of the darkness into His marvelous light. (1 Peter 2:9)

Our church leadership

The head of the church is Jesus Christ. However, the church is deacon and pastor led. We believe that as following God's word and listening to the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we will be good stewards to His word, His work, and His calling to the local body of Christ.

Our Pastor

 Bro. Keith Bickley was called into ministry in 2012. Born and raised in Pollok, Texas. He married his high school sweetheart, Karen Mullins. Married for 46 years, Keith and Karen have three children and eight grandchildren.

Retiring from law enforcement in 2014, he follows the calling of Christ to spread the good news, nurture the local church body to become closer to the Lord, and continues to explore the mercies He has bestowed him

He says, "It is a blessing and honor to be called by God as one of His servant leaders. Through Him I desire to spread His Word, fellowship with and minister to fellow Christians, and to engage people with His love through authentic relationships."
